Dartmoor Tinworking Research Group

Dartmoor Tinworking Research Group (DTRG) welcomes anyone joining us to:

Explore the mines of Dartmoor and surrounding area on our organised walks
Attend talks and social events
Enjoy walks and outings to other mining and industrial areas in the South West
Receive a twice yearly newsletter, with articles, reports and group notices
Conserve and promote some of the precious tinworking sites on Dartmoor
Undertake field surveys of tinworking remains of all ages
Carry out documentary research about tinworking on Dartmoor
Join us in keeping the Brimpts Tin Mine Trail fresh and leading interested groups around the site
Sell DTRG publications, and man the DTRG stand at shows and events.

Devon Wildlife Trust

Established over fifty years ago by a small group of volunteers, Devon Wildlife Trust exists to protect all wildlife in Devon and to safeguard Devon’s unique natural environment. We now have 50 Nature Reserves of which 16 are in or within a few miles of the National Park. It takes a good deal of effort to keep these reserves up to the mark as places rich in wildlife and welcoming to people. The task of managing more than 1,900 hectares of Devon falls to DWT’s team of Nature Reserves Officers, helped by many volunteers.

The South Devon and Dartmoor volunteer work party meets on a Wednesday throughout the year to do practical conservation work on several reserves. There are also adhoc opportunities on other reserves and other tasks. Moor Trees

A charity dedicated to recreating native woodland across Dartmoor and South Devon. Volunteers collect seeds, care for seedlings in the nurseries and plant trees out. Find out more on the Moor Trees website.

Okement Rivers Improvement Group, Okehampton, ORIG

The aim of the group is to protect and enhance the East & West Okement Rivers which flow through the town for the benefit of the community. When necessary, major work is carried out alongside the rivers as well as cutting back shrubbery and collecting litter from and alongside the river banks.

The group meet for 2 hrs on the last Saturday of the month.

South West Lakes Trust

We have lots of different volunteering projects to get involved in to suit your interests and time availability. The Dartmoor Preservation Association

An independent charity that helps to look after Dartmoor. The DPA maintains a strong interest in archaeology and the ecology of the moor with our members and others actively helping to preserve artefacts and to improve habitats. The North Bovey Conservation Group
