Active Travel
Dartmoor National Park Cycling and Walking Plan Consultation
Active travel refers to using your own body power to get around. This includes walking, cycling and wheeling. It is about making everyday journeys in a way that gets you physically active, this could be for work, school or leisure.
Choosing active travel offers a range of advantages:
- Improved health and well-being
- Reduced air pollution
- Safer and more pleasant streets
- Less traffic congestion
Dartmoor National Park Authority has secured £100,000 from Active Travel England. This funding will allow us to work with local communities to develop a plan for future active travel improvements. We are working closely with the active travel team from Devon County Council and local district and borough councils along with other key stakeholders on this project to ensure we maximise the benefits of potential future improvements. Interactive Map
As part of our initial information gathering, we are excited to announce our new online mapping platform that empowers you to directly contribute to active travel improvements in Dartmoor National Park.
We want to hear from residents and communities. There's no need to sign up, simply drop a pin or draw a route and tell us about:
- New active travel (walking, cycling and wheeling) routes you would like to see developed.
- Existing active travel routes that need improvements. Examples include surface upgrades to promote wheelchair access, upgrading public rights of way to allow greater access such as upgrading a footpath to a bridleway, locations where a safer road crossing is needed or where quiet lanes could be improved to support safer use by people walking, wheeling and horse riding.
- Please note that this tool should not be used to report issues with infrastructure on public rights of way (e.g. broken gates, stiles etc.). These should be reported separately using the Report a Path problem tool here: Report a path problem | Dartmoor.
The information you provide will be invaluable in the prioritisation of future active travel projects when funding becomes available. While we can't guarantee every suggestion will be implemented, your input is crucial in shaping how we improve and maintain trails and footpaths for wheeling and walking across Dartmoor.
Share your ideas using the interactive map and help create an even better active travel experience for everyone on Dartmoor.
Please submit your active travel improvement and route suggestions by the 24 November.
