Rainforest Discovery Day at Yarner Wood

Join us for a day of wildlife discoveries in Yarner Wood to find out more about all the awesome wildlife that lives in our very own Rainforest!
There will be Free Hands-on activities for children and wildlife walks in the woods to find out what makes Dartmoor’s woodlands so special. Walks are bookable in advance and will go live on March 31st
Walks will cover Moths, Reptiles, Birds, Lichens and Mosses, Ants, Butterflies, Mammals and Trees
- Stream dipping throughout the day (no need to book)
- Arty activities through the day to show you the beauty of moss and lichens which thrive in our rainforest- no need to book.
- Find out more about small mammals, otters and pine martens
- Explore the nature table or bring things to identify
- Have a go at drawing with woodland charcoal
- Coffe and refreshments
- Picnic Hub
In our Basecamp Zone we'll have nets and insect trays, microscopes, and field guides which you can borrow to help you discover what is around.
If you download the i-Naturalist app to your phone before you come out you can sign up to our LookWild project. The app allows you to take photographs of what you've seen and can help you to identify them too. More details about the LookWild project and how to download the app are here
This event is organised in partnership with Natural England who own and manage East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve.
