Bovey Tracey Neighbourhood Development Plan

Bovey Tracey Neighbourhood Development Plan

Following a successful referendum, Members approved the making (adoption) of the Bovey Tracey Neighbourhood Plan at the meeting of Authority on 4th March 2022. It now forms part of the Development Plan for Dartmoor National Park and should be used in deciding planning applications within the Bovey Tracey Neighbourhood Area.

Examination and Referendum

Consultation on the draft Neighbourhood Plan was undertaken in September 2021, after which an independent Examiner was appointed in accordance with Regulation 17. The examination was carried out between October and December 2021, and the Examiner confirmed that, subject to minor modifications, the plan met the ‘basic conditions’ as set out in legislation, and was suitable to go forward to referendum.

Dartmoor National Park Authority and Teignbridge District Council agreed with the Examiner’s conclusion, and a referendum held on 3rd February 2022 achieved a turnout of 21% of local residents. Of these, 86% voted in favour of the plan.

Neighbourhood Area Designation

Bovey Tracey Town Council applied for a Neighbourhood Plan Area in 2017.  As the parish of Bovey Tracey falls only partly within the Dartmoor National Park, the Town Council’s request for designation as a Neighbourhood Development Plan area was submitted to both Teignbridge District Council and the Dartmoor National Park Authority as the local planning authorities for the area.

Dartmoor National Park Authority and Teignbridge District Council confirmed their approval of Bovey Tracey Town Council’s proposal to designate a Neighbourhood Area, for the purposes of preparing a Neighbourhood Development Plan on the 4th August 2017.
