The Okehampton Town and Okehampton Hamlets Neighbourhood Plan Area includes land within Dartmoor National Park and West Devon. Dartmoor National Park Authority has agreed that West Devon Borough Council shall be lead authority in regard to this particular Neighbourhood Plan.

Following an independent examination of the Okehampton Town and Hamlets Neighbourhood Plan and the receipt of the Examiner’s report, West Devon Borough Council has agreed with the Examiner’s recommendation and has decided that the Okehampton Town and Hamlets Neighbourhood Plan should not proceed to referendum. Examination

As lead authority West Devon Borough Council arranged the Independent Examination. The Examiner, John Slater BA(Hons), DMS, MRTPI, FRGS, concluded his examination and issued his report on 28th May 2024.

Area Designation

Dartmoor National Park Authority confirmed its approval of Okehampton Town and Okehampton Hamlets Parish Councils’ proposal to designate a joint Neighbourhood Area, for the purposes of preparing a Neighbourhood Development Plan on the 22 June 2015.
